Sample Commission Write UpA successful commission description/write up will help an artist illustrate mentally what the image looks like using descriptive sentences and reference images.  I use the terms description and write up interchangeably so please don’t get confused, they are the same thing.

Doing a commission write up is an activity I recommend that you do before you hire an artist.  It's a writing exercise and it's an opportunity to let your creative juices flow and to structure your thoughts in an organized manner.

A commission write up has several parts.  When I begin writing a new commission write up, I list these parts

Commission by [funeralwind]

This commission was inspired by artwork funeralwind had done before; [link] . After seeing that picture, I decided he was the right artist to take on the challenge of drawing two of my characters as infested Terrans, similar to Infested Kerrigan. Let's be clear, this was a challenging commission for funeralwind and especially with the carapace on both ladies. Funeralwind did a great job on this commission and I'm more than happy to recommend him as someone you can safely commission from.

Title: Agents of the Swarm

Background:
This commission takes place in the Starcraft universe with my original characters Melissa Green [link] and Veronica Handelsman [link] .

Story:
Melissa and Veronica were conducting research on space colony relationships, when the Zerg attacked. The Terran Dominion forces held out as long as they could, but the Zerg Swarm overran them and laid siege to the command center sheltering the colony’s civilians. After shattering a hole in its rooftop, a Zerg queen entered the ruined compound and prepared the terrified Terran victims for impending infestation.

Isolated and helpless, the Terrans had nowhere to run. One by one, the Zerg coccooned them in alien pods and injected the Zerg hyperevolutionary virus injects into their body, resulting in genetic mutations. Many of Terrans did not survive the gestation period with their sanity intact and emerged as crazed abominations, prepared to die for the Zerg Swarm. Yet Melissa and Veronica emerged from their pods, brimming with psionic power. The hyperevolutionary virus jumpstarted their latent psionic talents, which protected them through the gestation period. Surprised at the result, their Zerg handlers welcome them into the fold.

At this moment, Melissa rested on the ground, weary from her transformation. Veronica remained standing to flex the new limbs the infestation process gave her. They were more than human now: they were part of the Swarm and it was the best sensation they ever felt before.

Very cool work, and interesting outcome there. Definitely a pair of lovely agents, and the design is wonderful. Have to say they'd likely be a formiddable foe, especially once they've had a chance to practice their skills.

Wonder what Kerrigan thinks about this? She wanted other hybrids like her but not as 'perfect' as her as then they would be competition. I had a similar storyline involving a psychic but she didn't have wings, but a long venomous tail.
