Background:
The Blackest Night prophecy culminates in the dead returning to life and thirsting for emotional succor from the living. Black power rings restore the dead into a corrupt facsimile of their once living selves. The Black power rings produce a similar result with those who have died, but returned from the dead.
Story:
Love. Compassion. Willpower. Hope. Fear. Avarice. Rage. Sailor Moon encompassed the entire emotional spectrum, thus she had the greatest ability to destroy the Black Lanterns and their rings. Nekron, leader of the Black Lantern Corps, would not idly allow this threat to go unnoticed or unchecked. With the dead as his weapon, it was a matter of selecting the most obvious choice to reach out and destroy Sailor Moon and the Sailor Senshi.
The long deceased Queen Serenity had decayed into dust on the surface of the moon, but the black ring could reconstitute anyone who was deceased. Nekron intended her return to be temporary for her only task was to be an emotional tether to her daughter. Once linked to Sailor Moon, Black Lantern Serenity would bring her daughter back into death’s embrace and embrace oblivion once more.
The sight of Sailor Moon’s true mother was stunning to the Sailor Senshi and Black Lantern Serenity returned their speechless gaze with a glowering visage of her own. She opened her mouth, but not to speak, rather to release the five black rings forged from the blackest, foulest magic her ring was capable of conjuring. These five rings sought out the five hands of the Sailor Senshi, sealing their fate.
Helpless to resist, Sailor Moon’s vision dimmed and the corrupted image of her mother went dark. When her lifeless eyes opened, she knew who she was again and who she served now. Nekron's will superseded her desires and his reigning command echoed in her mind. Devour emotion. Devour love, compassion, willpower, hope, fear, avarice, and rage.
