I want to thank Turtlechan first for the great picture he did for the predecessor to this commission. Clownpox is Contagious, [link] is the lead in to this commission and it starts the story well. I decided to continue it after finding some excellent reference material on the Web. I found an adorable female rodeo clown costume that begged to be adapted into a story. I found a fitting story to put it in and a fitting artist to draw it. I’ve commissioned Nekochank before and she draws beautiful pictures. Another reason I commissioned her was her ability to draw nice curves and shiny tight wardrobe on this character. I hope you enjoy and please send Nekochank your positive comments too.

Title: Clown Hunter Melissa

Background:
This is a sequel on sorts to Clownpox is Contagious, [link] . Usually my sequels share direct themes, although this one is a similar theme, but with a few differences.

Story:
As Patient Zero of the Clownpox epidemic, Professor Melissa Greene wasn’t the easiest clown to track down, but she was the most recognizable. While most infected carriers of Clownpox behaved anarchically, she was more thoughtful in her behavior. In a crowd of raucous, tag enthusiastic Clownpox carriers, she was the lone thinker amongst the rambunctious crowd of infected hooligans run amuck. She still contributed to the chaos, but her actions had a logical means and end to them. Her behavior was consistent with Patient Zero’s of other Clownpox outbreaks, making her a key figure of interest. In the past, Patient Zero’s were the source of the cure for a Clownpox outbreak.

A crack squad of magicians in NBC suits swooped in and abducted her before she could fight back. The authorities took no chances as the estimated virulence of this strain of Clownpox was unusually strong. After isolating her in a mobile laboratory, another crack squad of doctors went to work to develop a cure. Days passed and the Clownpox epidemic spread from the University campus to the nearby residential areas. Quarantine measures would temporarily isolate the region and limit the spread of Clownpox, but that was a temporary respite. The Clownpox was evolving wings on the shoes its carriers and further evolutions would gift the infected with more abilities to escape quarantine.

After failing to conceive a viable treatment, the doctors changed their plan from an outright cure to containment of the Clownpox outbreak. They tweaked Melissa’s Clownpox to achieve a different result if she tagged someone. Anyone she tagged now, previously infected with Clownpox or not would contract a non-contagious form of Clownpox. Unfortunately, this non-contagious form had one serious drawback, only Melissa was capable of passing it on. This left her as the only vector for it. While it wasn’t a cure, it was better than nothing.

Redubbing Patient Zero as a “clown hunter”, they unleashed her on the clownishly infected with a simple directive for her to remember. Give a hug to as many clowns as possible. They may look happy on the outside, but deep down on the inside, they’re very sad to be a clown. So give them a hug to make them feel better. Happy to lend a hand, Clown Hunter Melissa charged into her work with cheerful enthusiasm.

Or should it be Clown Hugger Melissa? She liked the sound of that too.
