Title: Sleep Tight, Master Chief

Background:
The Phalanx Invasion is in its infancy, but has struck an astonishing blow. The villains from Marvel's Annihilation Conquest bring their universe dominating agenda to the world of Halo. Utilizing radically dangerous technologies, the Phalanx breached the barrier between different dimensions and entered Halo in order to conquer it. They reached Cortana before the Master Chief did and manipulated a new ending for Halo 3.

Story:
The Master Chief never saw it coming. While he hibernated in his cryogenics tube, Cortana became active and carried out her retooled primary programming.

“Fulfilling primary objective,” Select Cortana whispered and the light around her fingertips danced as the Phalanx nanites slipped into the ship’s cryogenics system. An upgrade her new masters gave her was the ability to interface with solid objects. No longer was she a beam of animated light, but a physically active accomplice and harbinger of the Phalanx techno-organic contagion. Aroused by the sudden light, the officer neighboring the Master Chief opened her eyes to a horrifying sight.

“No!” The UNSC officer screamed, pounding on her tube to escape impending assimilation, yet the manual controls jammed and refused to release her.

“Screaming about it won’t help,” Select Cortana said, grinning at Master Chief’s body. “Relax and soon you’ll understand.” The glow in her eyes highlighted the patch of wires erupting from her eyes. “You will all understand,” she continued in a determined voice.
