Title: Storm, Hound of the Shadow King

Background:

Story:
The fall of the X-Men began with the betrayal in their leadership.  Unbeknownst to her colleagues, Rogue harbored the Shadow King in her psyche, where he manifested and took control of her mind.  The Shadow King had infected a different villain, but found himself unwillingly absorbed by Rogue when his host was touched by her.  He made the best of this opportunity to corrupt her and succeeded.

With Rogue under his control, the Shadow King set out to add an old nemesis to his collection.  Storm eluded his control many times in the past, but now he had the element of surprise in his favor.  He instructed his Rogue Hound to strike when Storm least expected it: at the end of a grueling Danger Room session.  When Storm attempted to exit, she discovered the controls unresponsive and the room did not respond to voice commands.  Weary of sabotage, she lowered the temperature to freezing to expose any ambushers, but found none.  She uncovered the exit as the flow of warmer air from outside buffeted with the cold air inside the Danger Room.  The manual override compelled the exits to open and Storm wearily proceeded to the control room.  She was not surprised to find it empty.  She knelt down to examine the circuit boards in the control room to inspect for sabotage.  As she suspected, they had shorted out, but whether by their own or unnatural means was something she could not conclude.  Storm was denied the chance to find out as Rogue phased upward from the floor below.

The Shadow King allowed his hound enough of her initiative to decide how to carry out the hunt.  Rogue borrowed Kitty Pryde’s phasing powers and phased in and out of the control room’s circuit boards at the end of Storm’s Danger Room session.  It shorted out the controls and delayed Storm’s recovery from her session.  It also provided Rogue a silent means of entering and exiting the room.  She lay in wait as Storm entered the control room and struck from behind while Storm studied the damaged circuit boards.  A single touch of Rogue’s hand was enough to drain the powers of her victim.  Two hands meant more of their power and personality drained into Rogue.  Storm had no time to react as Rogue’s two handed grip sapped her strength, power, and personality.  It was all the opening the Shadow King needed to break into Storm’s mind.  By the time she recovered consciousness the Shadow King was in full control.  Storm was no more: only the hound remained.
