The Brides of Set II

For my Brides of Set commission series, I'm proud that most of the artists I commissioned I have never commissioned before. Cric has a nice art style and I had several options to choose from before I commissioned him for this type of drawing. He was great to work with during the commission process and I was able to give him feedback. He took artistic license to make the picture more dramatic, which I approve.

Title: The Scarlet With, Bride of Set

Background:
This commission series takes place in the Marvel Comics world dubbed, Earth-9151, found in What If…The Marvel Super Heroes Had Lost Atlantis Attacks?, v2 Issue #25. The Marvel Comics storyline, Atlantis Attacks reintroduced the threat of Set to the world. A powerful, but banished elder god, Set promised to grant anyone who restored him to reality, a boon of his power. A villain named Ghaur took up this challenge and in doing so, threatened the known universe with the return of Set. To curry further favor with his master, Ghaur claimed seven heroines to be the brides of Set and one of them being the Scarlet Witch.

Story:
In the world of Earth-9151, the return of the serpent god Set brought great tragedy. Many heroes were felled trying to stop his return. Upon his summoning, he devastated the ranks of the Avengers. After a calamitous counterstrike, the remaining Avengers were destroyed in a failed attack on Set’s underwater lair. Set’s minions infected this world’s water supply with a drug that transformed men, women, and children into serpentine monsters bound to Set’s will. Only a handful of heroes remained to challenge the serpent god. In the end, they did not succeed. They challenged their implacable foe in a fight to the death and lost. Only the work of Quasar, combined with the powers of the cosmos and the Eye of Agamotto was Set banished for an eternity of combat with the lone hero.

Yet, the banishment of Set did not end his legacy of evil. As a gift upon his return, Set’s followers kidnapped seven heroines and hypnotized them to become Set’s brides. These seven brides remained after Set’s banishment ad they produced his offspring. Each of his offspring were consume their mothers, consume the followers of Set, and move onto into different dimensions to continue their father’s brutal legacy. Hypnotized into accepting her role as a bride of Set, the Scarlet Witch carried her brood to term without concern or fright.
