Commission by :iconforever-after: [Forever-After]

Artist to commissioner communication is key to the relationship and it came easy with Forever-After. She was receptive to my commission idea from the very beginning and it was a straightforward path to get it complete. She showed me several drafts of the work in progress, which I appreciated for the excellent work and attention to detail. I like the completed commission she finished and please visit her gallery and give it a looksie.

Title: What If...The Joker’s Last Laugh

Background:
During the DCU events of The Joker’s Last Laugh, Black Canary infiltrated the Slab, the prison facility holding the Joker and other metahuman prisoners. The Joker tricked the warden into creating an aerosol version of Smilex, transforming all of the prisoners into insane, cackling duplicates of the Joker. By an overt plot device, Black Canary avoided exposure to the aerosolized Smilex, despite crawling through ventilation shafts and running through open corridors. I call shenanigans, there is no way she could have avoided getting dosed with the Smilex and this is What If…? portrayal of what should have happened.

Story:
After a riot broke out in the Slab, a metahuman prison facility, Black Canary went in solo to reconnoiter the source of the riot. Unbeknownst to the heroine, the Joker had instigated the mayhem in order to provoke the warden to use all means necessary to incapacitate the rioting inmates. This would include chemical agents and metahuman derived drugs, designed to cripple the superpowers of the rioters. When put in a combination, all of the chemicals and drugs created a different product: aerosolized Smilex. Without any protection from gas masks, all of the inmates succumbed to Smilex poisoning and transformed into Joker look-a-likes. Seeing as she didn’t wear a gas mask or wear other equipment protecting her from chemical exposure, Black Canary suffered the same transformation that swept through the entire facility.
